Wow!! It feels like a whole month has gone by since our last update… we had to skip a week due to an unexpected event.. but it gave us a good excuse to take a break and catch up. As you know, we have a lot going on and we are on the move.
*Next Dinner
- Sunday 29th @ 6pm
- Mi Casa, 3416 Taraval St. #2 @ 44th Ave.
- Garden Work

*Community Garden
During our dinner, Friday August 21st, we planted our first seeds of: lettuce, basil, kale, cilantro and chard. And look, there are immediate results. Brian just sent us a picture, and the lettuce is beginning to sprout. We are so excited and we will be creating a gardener’s log in order to keep track of the details and the progression of out plating cycles. Moreover, we will be bringing more mature plants needing to be transplanted into a bigger space at the next SandBox dinner.
*Community Space
Unfortunately, we still haven’t decided if we are able to take on the community space on 22nd st. However, I am still very positive about this opportunity and Audiopharmacy is also willing to take on part of the responsibility and invest their time. Many of us already have a strong connection with Audiopharmacy, and know their involvement will help us all move forward. That is not to say, time isn’t running out. We still need to decide what we are going to do. The opportunity for this space won’t last very much longer. So, let’s work more on this subject and figure out: How much money we have, and how much time each of us can give to this endeavor?
*Non-Profit Status
We are still working on creating a business plan for Collective Wave and getting the appropriate permits to facilitate our visions and goals. We estimate that we will be done writing the plan by the end of October and we will be able to celebrate with a huge afterhours Halloween event. Even more, our website is almost done. Here you can take a sneak preview of what we have accomplished so far… http://dev.collectivewave.org/
*Burning Man
The opportunity for many of us to go to Burning Man has been presented, and we are all very excited about it. We are joining Camposanto, an established solar powered camp. Now, we need to prepare for our community to join theirs in the most sustainable way possible and to keep in mind that we will be living in the desert for at least one week, some of us two weeks.
Aside from our own camping and survival gear, we will need to make sure we have a community kitchen. The kitchen will need to protect us from the sun and dust storms. It also needs to be tall enough for everyone to come in and out with ease. The kitchen is the most important part of our camp. Secondly, we will create a chill space/shade structure. The structure is necessary for us to have protection from the sun. Thirdly, we will create a community space/dance floor. The dance floor will have a sound system powered by solar energy. This is what we will provide to the Burning Man community. A stage where we will have events and an open mic where everyone can come together to express themselves and enjoy for free.
In order to make all this happen, we need funds. The first thing we need, is to buy material. Fabrics is our number one priority right now since this is what we need to create shade for the kitchen and the chill spaces. In order to raise funds, we will create a week full of “FUNDraiser” events. Here is the link:http://www.facebook.com/events/369823396421544/
Even more, we need everybody’s help in order to promote and make these events successful fundraisers. We have a great opportunity to help create a sustainable Burning Man camp. The money we raise, is simply a tool for us to create and manifest our visions and goals. Working together, we can make this happen.
*Underground Soccer Events
Since we learned so much from our first soccer event, we know we what we need to do to create a more successful, bigger and better event in the future . For now, we will postpone the work until we come back from Burning Man..
