*Growing Our Own
Previously, it was mentioned of the importance of growing our own food, or some of it.  It definitely takes some time to set it up and having it running, Little by little we can combine our perspectives and share our skills and eventually have our own community garden.
Wednesday of last week I went to a “Gardener’s Seminar” close to my house and accumulated good information that will help us start. I found that a community garden can take extensive amount of time to create,  and that we can come across different experiences. Though, it will be worth it in many levels. Just by knowing where our food comes from and how much we worked to make it happen, is worth more than all the money we can imagine!
Friday 4/20, Stephanie, Isabella and I… planted our first vegetables. Priceless… Yep, we got a 2 feet long T5 HO SunBlaze light source for growing plants. Easy to install and doesn’t occupy space.  We are not sure if we are doing anything right, though we are excited to start doing mistakes…  And..   very happy to say that so far its looking pretty pretty green… Yep! Today we realized that something is coming out from the ground full of life!!!  We planted Cilantro, Lettuce & Basil to get us started. And the lettuce has been showing up it’s beauty…
*Survival Bag / Emergency Plan
Moreover, we all know that it would be good to be prepared for any emergency. We come home everyday thinking about how crazy this society is, and all the natural disasters that are happening. Something I really don’t want to get in to. Therefore, It is necessary to be prepared.  It is important to be self-sufficient for a few days. Through different friends and other important resources, it is suggested to be prepared for at least 72 hours = 3 days.http://72hours.org/ Though, it was brought to my attention that if we need to travel due to the emergency, 3 days won’t be enough.
We need to plan accordingly as a community. We might not have any form of communication at that time. Therefore, at least… it will be great to have one or more meeting spots.  A couple of suggestions has been presented. Meeting at Dolores Park and Twin Peaks. They might, or might not work. There is a lot more to prepare, but very important to make it happen soon.
The website http://72hours.org is a helpful resource. If you are a outdoor long time camping lover. You are 80% prepared. The other 20% should be food. Just make sure everything else is up to date and ready to go… (Not to mention that there is always more room to be prepared)
Consequently, I would like to mention that there is a festival http://pyramideclipse.com on May 17th – 21st = 4 days. It is a spiritual, conscious gathering that I haven’t gone to yet, and heard a lot about it. The opportunity has been presented to Steph, Isabella and I to go. It will be a great experience for us and would love to share it with you too. Plus, it will help us get prepared as a camping community, self-sufficient and incase of any emergency we are ready. That’s what we are aiming for. Wherever we go, we are prepared.
Please, send me some feed back … any ideas, thoughts, or if you want to share any other information, please do, or send it to me in order to attach it to the next “Update Night Tonight” letter.
*Important Dates This Month
This month has become busy! Hopefully you have time to take part of the following experiences.
These coming experiences will help us a lot. Such as, having the opportunity to work together again, or at least to see each other for a short time. Keeping in mind that your presence counts a lot… even if you are there for a minute, Our support towards each other in every way, is what we keeps our community together as a family.  That’s what has been happening so far… and it can only grow…
Moreover, the opportunities of participating in the following event are:
5 de Mayo.- Saturday. Day Event at http://ompowersf.com It is a new Yoga-Cycle Studio by the Ball Park and they invited me to teach Salsa dancing and if the class works well that day, they will consider me for future classes.  Being it 5 de Mayo. It will be packed, since there is also a Giants game. If there is crowed in the class, it’s all good. The event is planned to have several work shops, a closed street, and a closing party at Tres Agaves a couple of blocks away.  If you would like to come and dance that day with us, It would be great!
12 de Mayo.- Saturday, there is a special event at Nimby. YOGA BASS,http://www.facebook.com/events/124949930942638/ Warehouse in Oakland. All day event. Expected to have around 2000 people. At this event there will be all kinds of things happening, I will have a salsa dance lesson as well. There is also the opportunity to come as a vendor, if we want to sell art, photo, music, food, and more… The opportunity to perform at this event has also been granted to us.  DJ or live music, as wells as other yoga, or other skills to share.  We can do anything we would like. Anything collected from this event will be for our collective. Anything spent on this or any other event will be paid back to.
24 de Mayo.- Thursday, at Tropicana. We will celebrate the Independence of Pichincha, a traditional Ecuadorian Holiday. The reason we will celebrate is to bring the Ecuadorian community together. I have lived in SF for 10 years and have never met so many Ecuadorians, like I have the last 2 years. I lost count after for so long I knew about 4 or 5. Therefore, at our Tropicana event, we will make it happen in the most traditionally Ecuadorian possible way.  I have never even thought about attending to an Ecuadorian party here in SF. We will have 3 Ecuadorian Djs playing that day, plus our resident DJ Don Bustamante. We will decorate accordingly, and it would be great if we can sell some Ecuadorian food.. What do you think.. can we do it? Can we raise some funds for the collective? Gain some experience in working together?
Please let me know if you can participate, or other ideas…
May 17th - 21st.- Symbiosis Festival. http://pyramideclipse.com $280 ticket for 4 days. It is expensive. If you can come it would be great. Next to a lake to swim. Kids are free until 12 years old.
