*Last Dinner Monday, June 11th 2012
Wow!!! We had another amazing dinner. We had a delicious vegan posole, mmm! As well as an amazing salad, rice, tortillas, pita bread, chips, home made guacamole, and other sauces, plus a juicy watermelon as desert. We all had a very happy belly! And you know what they say… ? “Those who have a happy belly, have a happy heart”.
Big thanks to those individuals who made it out for the dinner and appreciate those who tried… There are still more dinners to come as we progress with organization, communication and actions of our community. Our family will always be family no matter what.
I would also like to mention that we had a fun and productive meeting once again. We reviewed the subjects from last week such as: Self-awareness, sustainability, consciousness, as well as health, and some of our up-coming projects to accomplish.
We found that our dinners are so productive that we will continue having these dinners as long as we need to, in order to establish and accomplish all our goals. Plus, they are really fun as well. It so interesting to find that instead of meeting with everyone at different restaurants to see each other, we can arrange dinners at different homes, with different food, different people… and as we go we can set it up as different themes and make it even more fun!! I am just saying…
Moreover, we concur that our next step before we continue with any personal or collective project… is to start our own community garden. It is very important because it helps our family be in touch, helps us learn & grow together, helps us appreciate food more and be healthier, and all of this combined helps us understand and appreciate our own lives more. Yes, we remind ourselves that growing our own food is the most sustainable practice that we can apply at this time. As well as understanding that we need to know how to grow food, the same way we know how to walk… specially since it is what gives us life it self… I understand that for some of us, growing food is not our priority or is not something we would like to work on. Though, keep in mind that as a family we will make it a pleasurable experience for everyone else. We will all combine our skills and learn from each other in order to be a self-sufficient community.
To start with our community garden, we will attend Hayes Valley Farm, a on-going community garden in San Francisco on 450 Laguna @ Fell.http://www.hayesvalleyfarm.com/
Their are volunteer opportunities Sundays, Wednesdays and Saturdays 12pm-5pm.
We will attend this Sunday, June 17th before our Family Dinner, which will start at 5pm.
I would also like to mention that there is a number of community gardens all over the city in which we can attend any time in our own neighborhood. This will give us the opportunity to learn for our garden as well as personal growth. http://www.sfgro.org/
* Next Dinner Sunday, June 17th 2012
So again, next Sunday we will meet at the Hayes Valley Farm at 12pm. We will volunteer until 5pm and then meet for our dinner after that.
Volunteer for Community Garden
Hayes Valley Farm
450 Laguna @ Fell St.
12pm-5pm
Family Dinner
“Sand Box” (Warehouse where we had our new years event)
132 Missouri @ 17th St.
5pm-10pm
If you can make it to at least one of them would be great. I personally will only be at the dinner since I work that afternoon, though some family members already confirmed in attending the community garden and it will be great if most of us can join.
While we have dinner next week and discuss our meeting, we will have hands-on building a community garden on the roof-top of the “Sand Box”. Next Sunday will be very productive, plus an amazing learning experience. I personally don’t know how to grow food, how to build or even cook… I am surprised I know how to eat.
What to Bring for Next Dinner?
- A food ingredient , or anything you would like share.
- A bowl and a cup.
- A personal written thought to share
Last dinner we were learning about different companies and corporations that are destroying our environment and our health in different ways, plus a few others that are helping on fixing this problem. We mentioned that it would be helpful if each of us come with more information regarding any corporation we need to know about, good or bad. Though, now that we have a blog running, we can share this information easily, though it would still be great to discuss about it in our dinners.
*Projects
- Community Garden: We will start working on the roof top of the sand box next Sunday, June 17th. As well as attending established community gardens around the city to gain experience and knowledge.
- Fundraising Event: As we mentioned on the last dinner, the purpose of this event is not necessarily to raise funds, but to have the experience of creating an event in which allow us to understand how we can work together as family and gain experience doing it. Plus it gives us the opportunity to express more by really finding out what are we capable of and rising our energy to its maximum.
This event is scheduled to be for the first week of August. This means we are prepared for the event already. We need to just find a space and then promote our asses off. So please, help find a space in every way possible. Ask everyone you know about it.
- Underground Indoor Soccer league: I have been working on this project for some time, I will send more information about it as soon as I get some equipment costs. It will help us raise funds as well as evolving the sport of soccer in a creative and fun way.
- Documentary: While we have these dinners, work with our community garden and in any other project. We find it helpful to document the progress of our family. Transitioning from a certain way of life, to the life would like to live. This will help us keep track, be organized, and will allow us to share with others. Specially, since in my understanding, what we are doing is not something it is heard or seen in every day life… I think about our history, and I believe that the generation that we are living today is very intense. In which documenting our learning experiences and our actions is important for future generations, plus very exciting.
Having the opportunity to have video clips and photos, plus amazing artists in our community, will allow us to create a fundraising video. A websitehttp://www.kickstarter.com/ gives the opportunity to be funded for any project in mind. I personally have a video in mind that will work well in order to be funded and accomplish our goals.
- Burning Man Camp: So at least half of us have a ticket to Burning Man this year and most of that half are attending for the first time… I would like to mention that we need to start preparing for it as soon as possible. There is a lot to set up and we also need to raise funds for this project as well. I had the opportunity to talk with CampoSanto, a well established solar-powered latin camp with a soccer field, in which has given us the opportunity to join them and work with them. I am actually calling him this morning to arrange everything. I would like to clarify that attending to Burning Man is an opportunity of the lifetime. Being able for our family to come there and experience it together, doesn’t have a word to describe it. Working together for this project will allow us to put ourselves to the test of a real solid self-sufficient family. We need it badly. After we live it there, we can live it anywhere.
Hope to see most of you on the next dinner since it will be on the weekend.
Big hug to everyone and thanks again for your time! Don’t forget to leave a comment… just to test it at least..
